an original poem by Joshua Brown

Sloth to the ground in haste doeth make

A mother, a child and father and Jake

From the top of the trees to the bottom

He swung down soft and safe but glum

Little family of monkey like mammals

Up in the leaves of natural windmills

Precious kindness brought to life by pause

An introspection of herbivorous jaws.

What did he see on his way down slow?

This wild, but harmless, in meda'tive flow

Branch upon branch from limb to limb

Aha! A predator prowling shadows dim

Thanks for reading "Jake the Sloth" which was written on March 23, 2023 while on my shift working as a security guard. My last poem is much different, it is entitled "PRESS" and it comes with a trigger warning, specifically it is a reflection on pornography, sexual promiscuity and kink and the relationship of those things to historic trauma. I think it's a very good poem but it is pretty dark.
