Yellow Bus

poem by Joshua Brown

I looked at the yellow bus and pined
For a time when God reigned on high
For a moment I felt a tinge of regret
My childhood dream of passion fled

I coughed harder and felt terror rising
As water filled my lungs and choking
I grasped up. Up. To the arms above me
The open hands that I could faintly see

But they were an illusion and a mirage
There was no up or down just frauds
Phantoms that flailed choking as well
Reaching for me to be together in hell.
