an original poem by Joshua Brown

Straight lines against the sands of time

Sunrise, against the craigy horizon, casts

Distinction between the will of man

And the patient creation of genes' climb

Black against blue the birds chime along

In morning hues, all nature wakes slow

A fresh chill wakes as fonts reach out

The brand, a call to women, a man's song

Tiny lights glitter, suspended in air

Unseen posts imposing the sky, two by two

Adaptive couples guard their localities

And call to me, miles away, to care.

Out to the west, infinity away, the skies

In brownish orange, and tired of expulsion

Unchallenged by biodiversity and danger

An artificial forest of never falling lies

Trees imposed to reduce the stark edge

Imposed over night by the consumer

In dream-like state of galactic flight

Healing heaven by eco-insurgent homage

Retreat, regroup, reform, advance

Each day, a fiery attack by sunlight rays

Feeding fake soldiers, photosynthetic spies

To wait for wind's command to dance

Terrorist sleeper cells of mitochondria

Dreaming nightmares of earth desolation

"Stop us not" the river sleep gurgles

In a world, dominated by men so free

The sun is up and so are we

But if we listen close

Hear, we can, conspiry,

Of deep revenge, by wind and tree.

Thanks for reading "A Song about Brenton Tarrant" which was written on the RTD 153 early on April 1, 2023. You should also check out my last poem "Shit Tests, Hypergamy, and the Virgin Mary" which is a reflection on the experience I had while doing private security protecting a disruptive inmate who was visiting the hospital from a local county jail. He was taking literal feces and throwing it at me while claiming he was a servant of God and that I was serving the Devil. He was very well versed in certain parts of the Bible, but clearly experiencing cognitive dissonance of some kind.
